I heard that clifford is not so good to deal with but they make a good modified intake manifold. I heard that offy makes a 4 barrel intake also but its the same as the stock manifold, it just allows you to use a 4 barrel carb. I read the article on how to modify a 1 barrel carb so that it accepts a 2 barrel carb. I was wondering if you could take a stock 1 barrel manifold widen the intake hole and weld a 4 barrel carb adaptor plate to it and you would pretty much have a poor mans offy intake right?

Yes you can do that, I read someone on the forum here has done that. I think it was Charlie or maybe Dart 270.

I did it, to use a 500 Holley 2 bbl, mounted sideways. Even if it could be done, I don't think I would do a 4bbl. There is really not enough room in the carb mount area.

The guy in the white '64 Dart was running an aluminum 1 bbl converted to 4bbl. He was in the 14's at Beech Bend.

The Offy four barrel intake is a good piece. On my stock race engine I could see no gain in performance when I Put the Clifford on. Just get the Offy and be happy. Thanks Ron Parker. :D

I poked Summit Racing today via email. All they have listed is the 2X1 Offy on their site. I know they are cheaper than Offy parts.com.

If you search by # ofy-5270 you come up with 2 results OFY-5270A (something to do with linkage) and OFY-5270LK the actual manifold, $266. The descriptions don't seem to be fully enterd into their website, probably why they don't come up with an ordinary search.

My ordinary search is at the swap meet  I just like to know my prices. IMO $50 is fine!

Do those need an adapter for a modern square bore?

Both the Offy and the Clifford use a carb mounting plate. You need the specific one for your type of carb. The 4bbl plate will accept both square Holley and Carter patterns.

So you need to order the plate seperate? What type of carb was it originally designed for?

Put on a plate for a Thermoquad

We use the Offy 4bbl intake with a Holley 390 on our 225 and are very pleased with the drive ability and performance. Not a race motor by any means, but a nice street performer.

The intake was designed to accept a lot of different carbs with the proper plate. The bolt pattern on the intake itself will not accept any carb.

My gut instinct is to agree with you, but this guy, amongst others, seems to like 'em a lot.

Might be a bad idea to offer it here, but here goes anyhow.

I have an Offy 4bbl intake to sell. I was saving in for some wild future project, but don't have the time or money for a good while. The intake looks new and is bare aluminum without paint. There is no carb plate (that's how it was when I got it).

I've been asking $185 + shipping but hoping that nobody notices. Mother's Day is just around the bend and if I don't get something nice for my wife, . . . .

You get the idea..

What does one of the carb plates cost? Someone make me a reasonable offer or I'll be forced to ebag the damn thing.
