This is what I have for parts. Its a 225 block with forged crank, and a 79 head that was previously mild .060, I have 1.44 and 1.70 oversized valves, bronze valve guides, teflon seals, and the 4 grove retaining locks, performance valve springs, erson chrome moly pushrods, comp cams lifters timing set and the Compcams 264S cam. Holley 390cfm 4bbl and a offy and wieland 4bbl intake. Also a Holley NOS Sniper Kit 50 to 150shot. and all the stuff for the electronic ignition conversion.

What is still on the shopping list ARP Rod and Main Bolts and still need pistons.

Now for the machining the head will be pocket ported, gasket matched and the bigger valves. The block will be bored .030 honed with a molly finish, performance coating on pistons, crank regrind.

I am looking for a good street strip build for a daily driver with A/C. And have been reading here for a while trying to figure out the right setup. I have a few worries will the comp cam 264S be enough cam for my 64 2dr valiant. Do I need a forged piston. I still don't know what Compression ratio to go for. I am just worried about spending this much money and not getting the the whole setup working together. Should I mill the head more or the Block? And wich intake should I use for this setup the offy or the wieland? Any Ideas on what to excpect for HP and torque with out the NOS of course.

Thank you for your help in advance. Michael

I would run the forged pistons if you plan to run the plate nitrous system, from what i read it would run 100 to 150 shot on the product page for the sniper system this made me warry of the actual shot you would get but i guess it can be jetted down :?:

Slant sixes vary from engine to engine as to the compression ratio. You would be best to CC the combustion chamber (head and block) and see EXACTLY what compression ratio you are running before milling it again. Then, if need be, mill the block to raise your compression to around 9.5:1, which will hopefully let you run regular gas and make your trips on the street much more fun (read: affordable to drive).

I would bore to 60 over to unshroud the big valves.

I would mill the block to get 9...to 9.25 CR for regular gas with the Comp cam.

The 264s (thats what I have) is pretty mild even with a Super 6

Ok Thank you for the answers. I guess I will tell the machine shop to shoot for 9 to 9.5 CR.

Sandy, Will the 264S be too mild for the 4bbl and if so what would you suggest to go with. I bought the cam awhile back when I planned on running a 2bbl but I know this is the only engine I will be building for some time so I wanted to get the most I could and still keep it streetable.

For the forged pistons I can only find one company (rock auto) that carries them and thats $700 for the set of six. Would the forged 2.2l turbo pistons work on the 225 rods and crank? What would i need to over bore too and would this still be able to be a daily driver?

I personally like a lot more cam than a 264, but I don't have an air car. Besides, with A/C you won't want to be driving around with a 3500 stall converter.

Like Sandy said, stay around 9-1, that cam will build good cylinder pressure.

Piston choice is not critical IF you stay at a 100 shot or so. Cast and KB pistons will hold up forever at 125 horse, and will live at 150 IF you keep your tune-up good. If your tune-up is bad, even forged pistons will die.

That setup on a 100 shot should esily make 300 horse.

Sweet I like 300hp :P This car will have A/C but is a 3 speed on the column for now I know the 3 speed is terrible for racing but thats what I have to deal with for now and the four or five speed is set for the future in another year or two but I need to get a motor together and in the car before October.

I am glad to hear cast pistons can hold a 125shot. I already expect pulling the head after a couple runs just to make sure everything is still ok.

So what would any of you guys suggest for a Cam with this build?
Thanks Michael

Your 3 speed trans is a deal breaker. The clutch wont hold any nitrous hit.....and neither will the trans.

Spend your nitrous money on a better trans and you will be faster.

I went fron a 3 speed to a 5 speed and with no other changes the car was faster and easier to drive.

Build your motor with the comp cam and 9:1 and work on the 5 speed while it is out.

I know I need to get the transmission upgreaded but I have to get the car driving first. Thank you very much with all your help. I will need to talk with a machine shop and see how much its all going to run me to do my engine. The plan will be to use the Comp 264S cam for now and go with 9 to 1 compression and may as well go .060 over to get the most out of the valves. The NOS is already sitting on the shelf in the storage unit but it was a good deal. I didn't plan on putting it on the car until after the tranny swap but I know I want to use it later so may as well build the motor for it now. Thanks again. Michael

Erson Cams has a nice deal happening right now, alot of guys like the 270 cam. I have a Schneider Racing cam, and I really like it. (It's in a A/C car)
