The pertronix conversions are very good, but with a good factory distributor still available new, that seems the better choice. Sure you still need a control module but you have a nice, wobble free new distributor. And it will work with the mopar box, a HEI or the MSD or Mallory boxes directly.

If everything is set up right and the ignition is capable of the intended rpm, I don't think there is much performance difference to be seen between any of the good electronic ignitions. I would go for reliability, parts availability and price, in that order. I am running a mopar type box from summit and so far so good. I have a new delco HEI module in my desk drawer that I will swap in when I get around to it. Getting rid of the ballast resistor alone is a big plus (40 -50 year jump in technology?).

A not so popular box is the Mallory HyFire VI-A. I have on on my chevy and it works great. It is designed to compete with the MSD 6 directly and is not expensive. It will run off of the mopar pickup. For a hotter box it might be worth checking out.

It is just so easy to get an HEI module anywhere or to keep such a small and light spare in the car.

hey guys thanks for the help. i have a new chrysler distributor on the way i bought the hei module and today i went to the wrecking yard to get the connectors off a hei distributor. and i cut off some connectors from another electric mopar distributor. and finally i bought an msd blaster2 coil.


i dont know if i should start a new topic but i'm looking into buying a rebuild kit for my holley 1920 carb and i cant read all the numbers on the side of the carb " 12r75 or 12r25" and the rest of the numbers are gone.

does it matter what that number is. the rebuild kits i've found online and on ebay specify the "r" number.

The carb number is on the flat surface that faces either the front of the car or the sky, above the fuel inlet fitting.

i was told when i got the car that it is a store rebuild.

and i was just searching this site and found some info that i'm still reading

the main problem is idle and the ever present odor of fuel under the hood. so till i find a good super six carb i need this one fixed.

Kit for an R6260 is a Walker 15480A. Can't hurt to put a kit in your present carb, but don't spend too much time or money on it; parts store carburetors are usually irretrievable junk.

I have a brand-new (not rebuilt) Super Six carb if you're after one; PM me.

Well, Walker themselves are in California, so I have to imagine they've got some distributorship there. You may want to call them and ask. Their website is here. (You can navigate to the catalogues and download 'em, too.) You could go to NAPA and get a carb kit number 2-5461, but I can't vouch for NAPA's carb kit quality these days, one way or the other.
