I am in the middle of rebuilding a Holley 1920 which was botched up already once in the past by a previous owner but appears complete (including a float that has a huge chuck bitten off-poor guy) except for the pump return spring. My question is did the later 'hook' style pump rod on a 1973 carb have a return spring between the metering body and the diaphram like the cam style predecessor? I don't see why it would have been as necessary as with the cam style but you never know. Thanks

P.S. Just a heads up for anyone who was thinking of rebuilding their carb shortly, I think the Hygrade kit I got from Standard is abundantly on the crappy side of quality and they no longer make floats either, so I guess its fair to say Walker might be the last best kit left worth bothering with.

The '60-'63 1920s have a cam-type pump with a return spring. '64-up 1920s have a spring-driven pump. Both types have their own kind of spring located as you describe.

Thanks Dan, I have the shaft spring that the rod passes thru at the front I just didn't know if I needed the one at the back, behind the pump diaphram. To add insult to injury I just found out my new Standard choke pull-off has a jumped spring that wedged and seized the shaft arm so it has no double action. I'm still waiting on a float I had to order over Ebay since I came to a dead end getting one over the counter.
