My rocker arms seem to be clogged on the valve side. Push rod sides are ok. What's the best way to clear them? Or should I bite the bullet and replace them at $12 a pop? What I've been doing so far is spraying WD-40 down the holes and trying to ream them out with a thin piece of wire.

WD40 is useless.

The valve adjustment procedure contains info on cleaning out crudded-up top end parts.

Ahh, I figured as much. The WD-40 was what I had in hand at the time. Something a little more corrosive was an after thought after I put everything away for the night. Thanks Dan.

Oh, should the wire be able to go all the way through the passage? It looks to me like it normally wouldn't.

Can of carb cleaner and a fine wire will be all you need. That and a couple hours time.

RAS used to sell rebuilt rockers with a new shaft for $85.

I took care of it today. All but four were clogged. I did notice one thing I'm not sure about. In the oil galley inside the shaft of each rocker has what looks like buildup for about an eighth of an inch on the pushrod outlet. I scrapped at a few of them. But the wire and toothbrush I was using were too soft. Is this something that's supposed to be there?

Sometimes it is better to get a couple of extra used rocker arm assemblies to work with. (I have a bunch if you need a couple)

These days I don't spend a lot of time trying to clean-out clogged rocker arm passages, I just replace them.

What is the best way to clean out the rocker shaft (home remedy). Can you get a replacement plug for the end if you need to pull the old one out to clean it thoroughly?

The oil holes for the rockers go down at the 7 o'clock position.

You should be able to get replacement plugs at the parts store. They are just a small cup plug.

So point the small holes on the shaft down?
I know they line up with the rocker, but what exactly are they there for?
