That looks pretty cool. What are you going to outline it with? I would consider leaving it as is.

I'm not a big fan of flames personally but it looks like you did a credible job laying them down.

This is the practice car that i am using to develop my painting technique...
Ill outline the flames with a gray pinstripe. I think it looks unfinished without it...

I think your Volare looks great. I think pinstripes would look good.
I like the "Black Hot Rod" primer! 8)
At least, that's what I think it is.

Aside from the flames (I'm not knocking them by the way) that car looks just like the one that my son and I took a road trip to Indy to check out 6 mos ago that I was considering buying via Ebay.

is a number on the door , then it can be in the demolition derby!

seriously though, the flames look nice, and I have a blitz black 73 swinger that I was thinking about doing with gloss black bumpers, trim, and trunk stripe. The contrast is nice, and your paint looks well applied.

The most constructive critisism I can offer is two things-

1- the spot where you transitioned from gloss to flat on the side maybe could be flamed more, or cut differently. It presently is a little reminiscent of a car with a non matching junkyard replacement fender.

2- this isn't about the paint, but I think that the red wheels ruin the subtlety of your paintjob. The red steel rim thing to me is better looking on earlier cars, usually complimented by whitewalls and baby moon hubcaps.

Of course my car might not be to your taset either, so if you are having fun then, awesome, I won't be a naysayer!

Kevin

Sorry it took so long to reply, didnt get a notification!
Thats a great idea doing flat black with a gloss trunk stripe. I was thinking that or twin racing stripes in gloss would look really good!
As for the flames on the side, originally i was gonna do them bigger, but i ended up leaving the red trim on, so i had to keep them below the trim line. I wanted to have them come off the hood & kind of encircle the Volare badge on the front.
The side flames were a lot harder to tape & I actually ran out of tape doing it so had to finish with lil bits of masking tape!
This car might end up getting a number on the side & getting smashed up... Its really a practice car, the body is full of holes. Im planning on really getting to know the slant. Im looking to get a dodge truck with a slant next, then ill pull the one I got & turf the rest of the car (except fot the hood, which will be going on the wall in my garage!).
Then ill rebuild the volares motor & drop it into the truck. THEN ill rebuild the trucks motor & drop that into a hotrod project.
The first motor is gonna be NA, for a daily driver & maybe for the second ill try to go with turbo & FI...
S.
