Drove about 100 miles on rebiult engine. When i went to adjust the valves there was very little oil (almost none) at the number one valves. The number 6 looked normal but number 5 had less. Number 4 a little less till it got to number one and as i said almost none. I have the correct turned down bolt in the last rocker stand but was wondering about the end head bolt. The fsm says the oil line goes through the last head bolt. I have studs instead of head bolts. Could this be the problem or is there something else i am missing?

Who's cam did you use?
My guess is that the problem is down at the cam, most of the aftermarket cams I am seeing these days have mis-drilled rocker arm feed cross holes in the #4 cam journal.

The #4 cam bearing also has two matching oil holes that have to be carefully aligned with the block's passage ways, see the "Twiggy" message thread for more info. and photos.

Here is the oil flow diagram showing the SL6 oil system lay-out.
One test would be to notch an opening onto the face of an extra head stud nut, install the notched nut and start the engine to see how much oil flows out of the opening.

The oil passageway coming up through the rear rocker shaft pedestal is just a small diameter hole. If it is partially clogged with gunk, you might not be getting the volume of oil necessary to make it all the way up to the front of the shaft. I used a small Phillips screwdriver to ream out all the crud in mine, and you wouldn't believe what all came out. My son tapped the starter one time to see if oil would come out the hole and it blasted me in the chest with a stout spray (keep your face back). :oops:

Thanks for the info. Think i will try the bump and spray method and change back to a regular head bolt. May put a little grind to the bolt also. If i remember right there is usually a little bit of step down under the bolt head. By the way it is an aftermarket cam in the engine. Will post update when done.

Fixed it. Took out the head stud and put in a regular head bolt. Put in the correct turned down bolt in the end of the rocker shaft. The rocker shaft was in backwards. The oil holes go to the front (carb side).

Since you were already that far into it, did you happen to check the oil passageway for obstructing gunk? Just a thought...

Actually I did, clean. I was suprised the engine biulder at least got that part right.
