Anybody know where to buy a new Radiator Overflow Bottle for a 1974 Dart Sport. I've looked around and can find NOS caps but not the bottle. Mine really needs cleaning and it would be fine with me to just replace it.

Doesn't look like that one's being reproduced. Brad's NOS has one for $110. I see a '73 A-body bottle available at Jim's (about halfway down the page) that'll fit and work without much difficulty, but there are persistent and numerous cautionary tales of bad customer experiences with Jim's, so beware and be careful. This same bottle can probably be had elsewhere.

about 5 years ago, I was MAKING those in a vacuum forming shop (we also made windshield wiper tanks). they were two piece and they were plastic welded together down the center. we made about 500 of them and never got another order. Some turned out okay, others didn't. the shop foreman didn't care what they looked like, he just wanted to fill the order. this really bothered me but my complaints were ignored.

the problem was the seam on the bottom, I didn't do those, I just did the forming (different department). Since the problem was on the bottom of the part, "out of sight", the foreman didn't care how bad it was since "no one would ever see it". I tried to explain that if it leaks people are going to start looking, he didn't care.

I recognized them immediately, since I have a 75 duster.

the problem is the company we made them for changed names several times, and then were bought out and sold off piece by piece. that happens allot in plastics.

my point is two-fold: they are out there in some capacity, but be careful with investing in them, it might be crap.

Eeyuck. I have a few stories just like that from product development jobs I've held in the past. Not fun to have to pick between integrity and a paycheque!

Unless the '74 in question is a show car, perhaps an aftermarket overflow tank, installed neatly, would be the best and least costly way to go.

its amazing- but every job I have had I need to do allot of quality control, and each one my standards have been higher than the manager's have been. its kind of sad in some cases.

the job I had before this one (when I was doing waterjet) it was scary some of the things I was told to let go.......and we had military contracts!
agreed. there are some generic ones you can buy through checker auto around here locally. other shops probably have something similar.

unless you need to be numbers matching, and just refurbished your original sparkplugs and rebuilt your battery, it could be way cheaper and cooler to make your own. it is not a complex mechanism, and Im sure you could come up with something better looking than the factory?

not to say that there is anything wrong with an original car, I love to see them! Mostly I am just baffled by paying over a hundred bucks for a plastic bottle with two hoses on it. brushed stainless or polished aluminum with a glass sight window and custom brackets- now youre talking about a hunnert bux!

I top it every couple of weeks to keep up with an incessant leak..



I've got some nice thick quart size Nalgene bottles in the shop. Might be a good project for tonight!

An aftermarket bottle might be the best solution in this situation. I have a 74 Duster and have had 2 bottles fall against the fan belt. The mounting bolt is located in a bad place and alows a lot of movement. First time I thought it was a fluke, maybe my fault. Second time I was on the highway and it took the belt with it, very lucky I was driving a slant, I don't think ANY other engine would have made it 3 miles to the next exit....and finding an auto parts store right off the highway was a complete accident.

Jegs or Summit have nice coolant recovery bottles with mounting lugs moulded in for around 16 bucks that work great and they come in different colors too.........Have used lots of them in the past.

Dan, I called Brads NOS and they were out of the bottles. I'm very patient and will check back with them later. The good news is they had other items I was looking for and I bought a couple of NOS items.
