Ballast resistor brand doesn't really matter; get an Echlin or a Standard and you'll be fine. Spark plug wires: Get Magnecor wires and forget about the plug wires for a decade or so.

I'll 2nd Dan; I've been very pleased with my Magnecor and very disappointed with some other brands. I've found that the quality varies a tremendously, even from the same vendor.

For example, a few years ago I bought 2 sets of MSW brand wire sets from PepBoys - both boxes said metal helical core, silicon jacketed, USA made. When I got home, the 1st set seemed OK and matched the description.

The 2nd box had a note laying in the bottom that said the although these wires were of foriegn manufacture, they met MSW's exacting standards.

Those wires were just cheap carbon core with black (non-silicone) jacket and not USA made. They weren't even the right length and made a crummy fit. If I hadn't been in a hurry I would have taken them right back to the store.

I sent MSW a complaint, but they never responded. The guy at PepBoys just shrugged.

So, if you're buying wires from any chain store, I strongly suggested you open the box and examine them right there at the store.

I've also seen Belden wires fall apart and Motorcraft come without the proper connectors even for a Ford, so beware and good luck.

I go one step past that.....

I bring in my digital multimeter and test each wire for conductivity and not excessive resistance (started after getting a set with a bad wire)

Had a bad wire come from taylor back when i just started wrenchin on bikes. Wire was actually broke in 2 inside the jacket, bike started and ran OK but when on the test ride would stumble and drop a cylinder, took me half an hour to find that one, drove me insane!

Some of the sets from the various manufactures may have low quality connectors or boots, even if the wire itself is good. I have had good luck with the Accel 5040 universal sets for the price. I have been using them on ford 700 series work trucks that it is impossible to get a correct fitted set for for years. The wire and the ends are both good quality and they are not expensive, they come in black, blue or yellow.

This is a lower dollar option than the magnacores and you can get them almost anywhere. You cannot go wrong with the magnacores if you choose to go that route. I would never buy Jacobs again.
