I have a 1987 Dodage D150 with 225 Slant-6 and 4-speed manual (OD) transmission. I know someone selling a high-performance 225 slant-6 from a 1968 dodge dart that's balanced and blue-printed. The engine was pulled and replaced with a larger V-8. It also includes an automatic trans.

I want to know if my existing 4-speed manual trans will be compatable with the slant-6 from the '68 dart before I purchase it.

Anyone know if they're comaptable or any straight-forward way I can find out before I purchase it?

Thanks,

TJ

If the engine is from a 68 then is should bolt just fine.
Crank flange would be one issue for the manule trans-- is 68 engine
bored for the input shaft on the manual trans? The hole will
be there but may be undersized or too short.

An undersized bushing or bearing type will fit the bill if
hole is too small. Shorten the trans input shaft if the hole
is not deep enough.

I am pretty sure '68 and later are the same. But, Dan or Doc would be better able to confirm this. Do a search and you are likely able to find the answer also.

The crank hub will be compatible, you will need to confirm the pilot hole in the back. So far all the forged crank units I've gotten have had a finished hole (even the couple I got from Auto cars), you will just need to see if the hole in the crank for the tranny input shaft is finished or not, this will determine if you need the 'troubleshooter' pilot bearing or not.

good luck,

I appreciate the input from you all. I plan to go ahead and get the motor. It requires a bit of detailing, but I'll post some photos as I prep it for installation. I'll be detailing my D150 as well.

I would have responded sooner, but for reason, I've been unable to log in using my original user name and password. And when I try to enter my e-mail to get my password, I get an error message that it doesn't match my user name. Strange I've been logging in for weeks with no problems.

Does anyone know how I go about getting this resolved?

Thanks,

TJ

DI, sorry I didn't reference your name on that go to list for parts interchangeability. You're the man with all those books, are you not? As well as the man with a lot of "useful information" stored in his brain.
