Starter relay doesn't look too bad does it?



What is this thing? It's over on the right inner fender near the coil.



You can see it here, just near that little black loop thingie. What's supposed to be going through that black loop anyways?



Engine compartment doesn't look too awful bad. Cleaned it up a bit today, more to come.



Under the hood doesn't look too bad either...



Can you get replacement battery trays, or should I just get a universal one?



I know where this hose attaches on the bottom of the air cleaner, but darned if I can figure out where it goes. It was not hooked to anything when I got the car.



I only have one of these rubber hood stops. The one I do have is surrounded by rust; the other is nice and clean. Anywhere to get these babies?





Okay, here's more mystery stuff. I assume the resistor is ignition related maybe? I didn't follow the wires, as I was taking the picture to ask what the stoppered hose coming out of the fitting on the exhaust manifold was for, saw that resistor in the pic and just wondered about it. So, two questions here!

Looks like a starter relay. Unless they get smashed or burned or severely corroded, their function isn't judged by appearance.
Voltage regulator.
Wires.
Yep, from multiple sources.
Sheetmetal "stove" attached to the exhaust manifold. Probably missing on your car.
Also widely available as reproduction parts.

Automatic choke heater modulator.
Intake manifold. Probably part of the (disabled) EGR system.

Dan, thanks for the explanations. That is a big help.

Couple questions. Is it going to be a problem if my EGR is disabled? How about the missing sheet metal stove?

Where's a good place to get stuff like the hood stop and battery trays? Like I get all my GMC truck stuff from LMC. I don't need a bunch of places to go, just one or two.

I'm going to need new rubbers too. The seal on the trunk lid needs to be replaced. That metal channel needs to have the rust cleaned out and repaired. Not too big a deal.

For some reason, the inside of my glove box is more than slightly damp too. Gotta figure that one out!

If nothing else, I'm 55 cents ahead on my day from working inside the car.

In reply to Matt, the dude I got this car from is an old time Mopar guy. He had an old Roadrunner sitting on the other side of a REALLY cramped 2 car garage when I first went to look at this car. I could afford the Dart...

All the 1973-1976 Cars that come with Discs have these bars (some V-8 drum brake cars get them too), it keeps the fenders/bathtub from flexing, they can be added to any 1967-1976 A-body easily if needed...

You're probably better off without it.
Having the thermostatic air cleaner system intact improves driveability and fuel economy, and it's easy and inexpensive to get it back in order. But you won't actually hurt anything by driving without it.
Some reputable sources include Dante's Parts, Gary Goers (send him $6 in the mail for a paper catalogue...totally worth it!), Jack's Auto Parts, and Year One.

Some scam artists to avoid include Jim's Auto Parts, Layson's Restorations, and — unless you're the gambling type — Mitchell Motor Parts.
You'll want a windshield wiper pivot seal kit. Those come from Schumacher's.

Interesting - I hadn't realized something like that could make a difference on A-bodies. I'd seen them on many cars with coil spring suspension, but kind of figured that these points wouldn't be subject to nearly as much load with a torsion bar suspension.

If they can improve handling, I might add something similar to my Dart.

Interesting you mention that Schumacher's wiper pivot seal kit. One of the things I found in the car today (the glove compartment actually) was a windshield wiper linkage bushing. Package had two originally, one is left. I know they're not the seals of which you speak, just interesting.

Boy, I've learned a lot the past couple of days. The wonders of modern technology.

I bought the battery tray from 1A Auto. It's pretty good quality and it bolted right up with no problems at all.

Ah my battery tray looks just like that good think i'll be picking one up tommorow anyways along with the battery hold down don't want charrlie yellin at me at the drag strip.
