I've used about all the methods proposed here except the real exotic, take it to a machine shop stuff. Bottom line is my best and most regular success has been with the center punch, drill, and then use of my 1/4" left hand bit. I bought it years ago from a local fastener and tools wholesaler here in Albany (Douglas Industrial) and it has turned many a stuck and broken stud/bolt out. I don't remember how much it was, but I seem to remember it was over 10 bucks, maybe 20. It was relatively expensive, but man, it has paid its way!

Actually for the one that has a bit sticking out, there is a stud remover tool that goes on a ratchet. Use plenty of P oil and use that tool, it might work. The other one needs to be drilled out and use "easy-Out" drill afterward to twist it out.

got to working on one of those stuck bolts last night. What a bear. I drilled ever so slightly off center and now I'm trying to figure out what to do.

Any good fastener/hand tools place ought to have those left handed bits individually. The 1/4" one I bought years ago has taken out lots of broken studs of various sizes!

Also, Grainger has bunches of them listed online...

hi,i got a set with left drills and easy outs from snap-on. the kit with both the left hand easy outs and drills was only $8 more than just the drills alone. we use them a lot in the northeast. just worked on a 2001 ford f450 4x4 v-10 dump truck with 40k with broken and rusted manifold studs and only got out 11 of the 20 ex manifold studs and had to drill the rest in place. jobs like that pay for my mopar projects. ron
