Hey guys, this may be obvious but I have been known to be slight thickheaded lol. In the process of rewiring the engine compartment, I followed the ground wire on the alternator. It went in through a grommet (which is I don't believe it supposed to be) in through the dash and up to the fuse box. I haven't gotten to opening the fuse box to see where it connects but it doesn't seem right. Where do you think its connected in the fuse box if its a ground? And shouldn't it just be grounded to the engine or close to the chassis? I did find a black wire bolted to the frame near the horns but its not connected to anything else. I think that's where it WAS. Also, I have the battery grounded to the engine block but is there supposed to be a ground to the chassis from the block or something, maybe a braided cable or something??? Does anyone have any insight in this matter? Thanks -Dan

Sounds like the PO of your car really got to having fun with a spool of wire!

Run a ground wire from the alternator housing to the voltage regulator base to the battery negative terminal and you should be all set.

Out of curiousity, why to the base of the voltage regulator?

So that the voltage regulator, alternator, and battery are all at the same ground plane. It helps make sure the voltage regulator accurately sees the line voltage, so regulation is as accurate and smooth as possible.

My '66 Dart has a braided cable running from a tranny/engine bolt to the firewall, but I don't know if it came from the factory that way.
Also helps ground the chassis.

Might not've been a braided cable originally, but the location is correct for the factory grounding strap.
