Got PM'd by a guy on Moparts this week to help him get his car running. It is a '66 Belvedere I 2 door post car, Slant, 904, manual steering and brakes, and a radio delete car.

It was last tried to get going a year ago. It sat for at least 10 before that. :?

Got out there and the guy had rebuilt the carb, but had 1 piece left over. Looked at it, lookeed at the carb, and decided it was the rod for the accelerator pump. Got it on, put gas in the car, and attempted lift off. The car would fire right up and run for a little while when primed, but would not fill the fuel filter. (Fram plastic, not a glass one) :(

Did a couple checks and determined that the fuel pump was not pumping. Bill says I have an NOS one in the garage! Sure enough, he had one in a Mopar box from 1981.

Took about 10 minutes to install it. Had him crank it over and fuel started spraying out the pump, so I hooked up the line to the carb and tried it one more time. I primed it, Bill turned it over, and Voila! a running and happy Slant. :D :D

I adjusted the mixture and we took it out for a spin. Very nice running Slant for a stocker. It had a flat spot down low, but I think that may go away after he gets a tank of good gas run through it.

Down side is that the car is slated for a 360/904 swap.

Good news is that I will prolly end up with all the Slant stuff out of it. :D

Dan, you would love this guy. He had a full cabinet of NOS and NORS Slant ignition and electrical parts from '60 on up. :)

My first car was a '66 Coronet 2 door post car with radio delete. Never saw another one like it. Interesting to learn there was a Belvedere version.

No, I'm still working on trying to get him to keep the Slant.

It is a very nice Belve though. 39,000 original miles, little old lady car from Nebraska. :D

That's a heartwarming story and it hits close to home since we just acquired a '66 Belvedere I wagon (sorry, all my stories are about wagons...get used to it) that we saved from the crusher. We pulled the factory slant with the six inch window in front of the starter and jammed in a mystery truck slant that we scored for free. We of coarse patched all the floors and brakes to make it road worthy and have been bombing the back roads for weeks. Today as I was flying through the pot holes at full throttle I thought to myself "this thing has no guts" so I put a timing light to it and saw that we were sitting around 7* ATDC. No good, I set it @ around 5 BTDC and it's purring like a drunk kitten. Next week I may go so far as to set the valves but I really don't want to get ahead of myself. We're still at the stage of beating the crap out of it and having way too much fun before we build a proper mill and splash some semi-shiny paint.

On a side note, this car also came radio and cigar lighter delete with a sway bar and a sure grip. Upon closer inspection we discovered lettering on the side door disclaiming "For Official Use Only, U.S. Government Atomic Energy commission". A true five mile Island survivor.

Actually, we've since named said beast "The Atomic Six" Turbo build to ensue. And I've yet to feel the Atomic "glowing" affects, though the Pilsner seems to be taking some kind of effect.
