Hi all,

I am taking a hint from Matt, and asked myself what one of the hardest parts of a FI conversion would be. I believe that the Fuel Rail is one of the problem areas. Regardless of the manifold, the rail will be more or less the same, since they all have the same bore centers.

So, how many people might want one? Depending on what the response is, I will contact a machine shop here that I trust to run up a batch.

Here is what I think it would consist of:
  • -6 fittings on the front of it.
a mustang based fuel pressure regulator on the back.
drilled for standard (bosch style?) fuel injectors
some sort of retention system for the injectors.
Here is what one of the regulators looks like:

I was talking to Menko today about this, and he expressed interest. Anybody else interested?

Just because bore centers are the same doesn't mean injector placement is the same. Example, on the clifford manifold that quite a few of us have, the precast bosses aren't in the center of each runner. Injector angles will also be different from one install to the other. And depending on aircleaner / throttle body setup angles can change which means rail holdowns change.

Too many variables for a one size fits all solution....

Good points, Pierre. It may be possible to come up with a basic model that works for a lot of people, though. That is what we should shoot for.

Something that I had at one time considered was making a bolt-on unit that would start with a 1-bbl iron manifold machined to accept the Jeep 4.0 60 mm TB. The bungs would all be drilled and the rail fitted. Bolting it on to the vehicle required mounting the whole assy along with the fuel pump and wiring harness (with minimal stuff connected to it). It would have been a basic system with no special frills, but priced under $2000 for a ready to install kit. I've gotten involved with too much other stuff and still have the various parts laying in the attick that I never got to.

Ditto on the greetings for you , Mike.

Are you interested in getting in the fuel rail business?

Greg

Yes, the runners aren't level across. (Reading that first line sounds like "Yes, we have no bananas".) Since bungs have to be added to the manifold, my intent was to have #6 injector sit that little bit away from the port. That bung might have to be tweaked a tad to get a good spray into the airstream, but should work fine.

I've been hanging out reading alot and posting very little. Spent quite a bit of time developing that fuel economy package that most can't believe works. The work in the shop backed up on me and I've been hammering away at the pile. Almost bought a '67 Dart GT Convertible. I looked at it last year and only remembered a little rust on a mostly complete car. When I looked at it again last week, a whole bunch more rust appeared and some parts disappeared. Oh well.

So there is interest in just a modified intake manifold that accepts a reasonably sized throttle body and an injector rail?

Mike

I replaced "Power Plate" technology of yesteryear with "Powre Lynz" technology of today. It works out well considering I port heads.

I don't think a "group buy" is the answer because there are so many different configurations. What would be nice is if someone from the forum would build fuel rails to any spec needed.
A tool like this http://www.rossmachineracing.com/injectortool.html is fairly inexpensive for someone who already has a mill. I would think that the pay off would come soon concidering what some of the forum members have already paid for their rail.

I'm ready to order soon!
