I have talked to T&D in the past and they quoted about $600 for rollers about 5 yrs ago.

I would not waste time/$$ with the RAS units because they don't oil properly. I ran a set on the street (my 64 Dart) for about 1500 miles and they were already marring the valve tips. If you look at the oil passages, they are stupidly set up.

If T&D does a set for a reasonable price and with proper oiling (I can help with this), then I'd likely want a set.

For drag and light street use, the stockers will never fail you. HOWEVER, for sustained road racing or hard use, they heat up and start to degrade and need to be replaced occasionally. Granted, they are cheap/free, but this is annoying to have to deal with.

Actually it was $340.

Ron Parker used a set of 1.6 on his internally stock motor and gained a couple tenths I believe.

Mine gained nothing.

I believes most of all that proves I have a camshaft matched to my head flow.

Lou, hasn't RAS changed the oiling on their later sets? I know the first set I had killed a set of adjusters in less than 500 miles.

I looked at later sets and didn't see any substantial improvement, at least by eye.

The ones I ran had NO oil groove in the rocker (like on the inside surface of the stocker) that transfers oil from the shaft hole to both ends of the rocker, and the hole that points at the valve tip is way too far away to actually drip any oil there. Some might get thrown there, but very inefficiently. Just lazy engineering or manufacturing.

If you run drags only they should be fine, I would think.

A good set of roller rockers is a real nice thing to have, but it almost always comes down to the price. As pointed out, if they are not right, it is just an expensive headache.

Guide wear seems to always be an issue on a hot street engine and rollers help quite a bit with this. I would be interested in them just for this reason and for the accurate ratio. So if some real numbers come up for a stock valve combination, I would consider it.

My low buck solution for the build I am planning is just a new shaft and a a set of NOS rockers with stock length oversize valves, I already have these on the shelf. I will likely use a set of the cut to fit pushrods or order a custom set so I can get the ratio as close as possible and the adjusters where they belong. It's cheap, easy, and will definitely work well. Having shaft mounted rockers to start with is half the battle.

The guys at T&D are putting some numbers together and I should know by tomorrow or the next day. He has read this tread and is going to try and address every ones concerns about oiling and price projection for us. He also says that the more people buy the cheaper it will be.


If every one would buy a set...3000 plus members of slant six.org.....

And that's how it should be. Someone talks up the possibility to a mfgr, and the mfgr does thier homework. In this day and age, with the 'net, info can be gleaned very readily and cheaply. If they have any questions at all, it would behoove them to jump into this thread and ask. In this way, they will be able to put out a quality product that works, the first time out of the chute.

I think I sent a Pm, but I would be interested if you got the price down. I'm not building yet but I want to store a set away. The rollers we've put on all of our small block builds are good for a 30hp, but those have been on monster builds. The question is do you need them? I wanted them for my last build but realise I would be glad if I got 200hp not quite needed for that engine, huh?

I also would be for putting a set on the shelf for my motor build next summer. As long as I can afford the cash when the buy happens count me in.

Are they going to be aluminum or steel? Don't know if I'll buy a set but thanks for doing this. Don't worry about the nay-sayers. My other hobby is model trains. Lots of people in that hobby complain about no SP models, but when a mfg. goes out on a limb and actually produces an SP model, people complain about the price. Manufacturers aren't running charities, they need to make a fair profit on what they produce.

Ok, I was just talking with my uncle about his Challenger we've been working on and even though he wants to see my 340 in my duster like tommorrow, he really likes to hear about my slanted ideas. I told him about these roller rockers and about the price and he told me that $450 is Freakin off the wall for a single set of roller rockers. So, what the story with all this? I thought I read somewhere about the shaft being the same dia as a 440? So I know this has been on the side burner, but someone has got to have a good answer for all this?

The price is all about supply and demand. There is not much demand for slant six roller rockers. There are bropablly 1,000 v-8 roller sets sold, for every single slant six set. To the Chevy guys, big and small block Mopar roller rockes are over priced. I think the slant, big block and small block shafts are the same dia, but so what? The length is different, and the rocker arms themselfs are a different length and offset.
