I killed the preignition under boost with a colder plug, and thermostat. But, I did not like the way the car ran with the colder plugs, and the colder thermostat. So, I put the colder thermostat back in, and ordered a Devil's own water/meth injection kit. I will let you know how it works. The car is back on the road and running great, but the preignition still keeps me from really hammering on it. I'll keep you posted.

Oh yeah, and my achilles is healed enough to drive the stick shift again. Much to be grateful for right now.

Sounds like great progress on the Achilles!

I'll be interested in the injection tryout.

Getting the charge colder may be a big help.

If you are at the point where you can "control" detonation, then you are 4/5th there. Now you have to make compormises, take some timing out, run better gas, etc. when you plan to run the car hard, change it back for the "putt-putt" to work and back. Throuble is.... I run into that jack-a$$ on the way to work and...

Doug, those are encouraging words. I am hoping that I can get by on regular gas with the water injection. I'll let you know. I feel the same way about the goof ball you want to blow off on the way to work. But if you've got regular gas, you might be better off letting it go.

Sometimes it is as stronger statement just to let them go. "My car is too fast to waste my time fooling around with you" The Tao calls this the "sword of no sword". This is when you are so powerfull you don;t have to prove it to anyone. (Maybe that got a little too heavy there?).

Did you have any luck improving the drivability by tuning with the cold thermostat and plugs? I assume not since you are going back to a hotter thermostat.

Playing with the timing, fuel maps and maybe even get the injector timing (when they start to squirt as referenced to the intake opening) may help. Also having them aimed right at the bottom of the valve and using an injector that is big enough but not too big can make a huge difference. So many "experts" are out there selling injectors that are often twice what is needed. Shortening the pulse is not the same as a longer pulse and good spray pattern.

Just some thoughts. It has been my experience that running a cold thermostat and plugs that are 1 - 3 ranges colder are needed on a street turbo, if you want to get the most out of pump gas.

Alcohol injection can really work wonders. I would not even consider running any water in it, just straight denatured alcohol. The water vaporizes and displaces way too much of the charge, it might help detonation some, but you won't make any real power with it. The alcohol will be extra high octane fuel and let you turn up the boost
