I have a 225 with a A833 4-speed manual. Will a throttle body for an auto trans work?

Thanks, TJ

I don't see why not, just ignore the linkage meant for the auto trans and if it gets in the way theres always various forms of metal removal... ;)

Are you asking if you can swap the throttle bodies between carburetors originally installed on vehicles with automatic and manual transmissions? Or if you can swap complete carburetors? The answer is generally "yes", but there are sometimes complicating factors. What exact swap do you have in mind?

I am building up a 225 to replace my current one. I am considering an EFI system in place of a carb system. A friend of a friend has an Offy dual 1-bbl that I can get for $50. He also has a throttle body from a 1997 2.0 A/T Neon that he'll just give me. I am toying with the idea of finding a second matching TB and installing them on the Offy manifold.
I this approach worth considering?

On the other hand, I already have an unused (but early vintage) Clifford 4-bbl manifold that I could use for a TBI or MPFI system.

I'm still on a learning curve with EFI, so I'm learning as much from the forum posts before I dive into anything.

Any other suggestions are welcome.

-TJ

Dual TBs on an Offy manifold would be pretty cool.

You don't need to worry much about what the throttle body came off of as long as it's got a variable TPS and is about the right diameter for your engine. It's not like you have to worry about it being compatible with the stock slant six computer, since the only computer they ever put on slant sixes from the factory was the infamous Lean Burn...

Don't limit yourself to what your friend can give you, throttle bodies are cheap, especially in used form.

I'm not sure how that will work, using a split manifold. I think you may have to build a second box, running a vacuum hose from each half of your manifold to it then feed the map sensor from that box.

Will also be trickier to build the throttle linkage.

Thanks, Guys.

I appreciate the info and suggestions. Like I mentioned, I'm still a newby with EFI and will do quite a bit more research before I take the plunge.

In either case, I'll go ahead and $50 for the Offy, whether I use it or not. If I decide to go a different route, I don't think I'll have any problem selling it.

I have played with many different throttle body combos for my someday to be built EFI. Here is a couple of pictures of the best ones I found yet, from a pair of Chevy Berattas sitting next to each other in the u-pull it yard. $5.00 each. I don't remember the cost of the rebuild kits, but they were really inexpensive. Also, you need fairly hefty torx bits to remove them and rebuild them.
