So, I installed my new engine with the super six set-up about a week ago and it's running well. The difference in the power is quite something. I have a few questions though; What do I wire the choke heater up to? I read in another post it's wired to the oil pressure sender. How do I do that? The engine was recently rebuilt and I'm likely running with stock valves, possibly a .030 overbore (although this is just a guess based on the fact it was rebuilt) It's running through an a904 trans. Where should I set my initial timing? I'm going to put a few more timing marks on my balancer to see if I can map out my advance (initial, mechanical, vacuum), but I see so many different values here for a good initial advance setting I just don't know where to start. On the downside, I think I have either a small exhaust leak or a very loud lifter (99.9% sure it's an exhaust leak as it gets quieter when the engine gets hot) and I can hear what I believe to be a vacuum leak while I'm driving, but for my first time pulling a motor and putting in a new one, I'm pretty happy with the results.

The stock type electric chokes are a pain...and nonadjustable. Put in one of the fully adjustable Electric choke kits and be happy. Initial timing with a stock or near-stock distributor? 5° BTDC is a fine place to start, then tune from there. Vacuum leak plus "sounds like an exhaust leak" is probably manifold gasket related. It is very much worth your while to get the good gaskets for the manifolds-to-head and intake-to-exhaust junctions.

Dan is right on.

I went through the same thing and had a few leaks with the stock gasket. It got worse over the last 6 months to where I had 2 intake leaks and 3 exhaust leaks. I also had the surfaces milled so the runners are all the same length and it still leaked. I ordered the Aussie gaskets $37 with shipping and made the switch.
What a difference! You can tighten per spec and not have the leaks. These gaskets are awesome and reusable. No more leaks and great vacuum gage readings.

I started a 10 degrees and am at 16 degrees initial now. :D
