I am wondering about a balancer for my new motor. The block and crank are a 1973 forged units. The original engine in my car is 1978 and has a cast crank.I had contacted The Damper Doctor and he told me to ship him mine and he would rebuild it but I don't believe that you can use a cast crank damper on a forged crank.I would like some input, also I have looked for and aftermarket type one and can't find any, like a fluid damper ect...My motor is almost done. The engine shop finally recievd the custom pistion this week and has dry assembled the engine to check all the clearences. And I want to thank Slantzilla for the tranny info.I have contacted 727 Specilities and he's building my trans and convertet.Looks like by the end of december I'll finally have this thing running after almost 2 years.

You can use any 225 67-78 damper on your forged crank unit, the only real difference is that the cast crank damper is slightly heavier than the forged crank damper...

We used a BHJ for a 440. redid the TDC mark. you will have to play with pulleys and spacers for belt alignment but that was minor.

I think maybe Lou has seen those balancers in person.

ep-I do not think you will be disappointed. I have been running Keith's transmissions for years and have never broken one yet. :D

That's a different Aussie balancer than what I have. Mine are Romac, which are nicer than those and sometimes show up on Ebay. Cameron Tilley uses the Romac on his motors, so that's good enough for me.

I think an Ebay seller named Falconglobal sells the Romacs for around $200.

Well I took your advise (as always) and recieved my Romacs balancer yesterday.Looks like a good piece.I had talked to the Damper Doctor and he said they would rebuikd mine. The Romacs is much nicer then the stock one,it has timing marks all the way around which will be very helpful when dialing my motor.Things are looking up and I hope to have the car done to go to the Mopars at The strip.Should recive my trans and convertor in a couple of weeks. As always thanks for the help.I'll post a few picture next week.

Glad you are happy with the Romac. It is a nicer piece than stock and cannot separate. One thing is the finish will degrade in the weather and it will rust. I need to blast and paint mine - been on there about 10k miles and 2yrs.
