: I'm working on the brakes on my '69 Valiant. I
: discovered that the passenger side rear
: brake was contaminated with axle grease due
: to a bad gasket. The other rear brake was
: doing all of the work! When I replaced the
: shoes today, I had a problem with the pin
: that holds the self adjuster. It seems that
: they drilled out the shoe too much and the
: pin won't stay in. The local auto parts
: store didn't have another set of shoes, so I
: decided to assemble the brake with the new
: shoes and without the self adjuster. How
: important is the self adjuster? I don't
: think that the older cars even had them!
