I dropped my Clifford headers off at my buddy's place today so he can start engineering a set of longer tube headers for my '66 Valiant. First pair out will be 1-5/8" primary with 2-1/2" collectors. We are shooting for a primary tube that is 12-14" longer than the Clifford shorties. We are also hoping we can place the collectors in an area where they can still be hooked up to an exhaust system. My set will have race collectors on them though.

Probably after New Years I will be dropping off my car to his place for final mock-up and fitting. Then they go off to another buddys shop for TIG welding, and then in for coating. After that I will be taking the car to High Speed for some dyno work since I still have the time I reserved from Harold's fiasco.

IF we can figure out a way to make a good header at a price that people will pay, production will start in early spring if there is any interest.

Please be aware that these headers will fit early A body, 198-225 ONLY! We are not interested in doing headers for anything else because there are pipes available now. These may be able to be modified for a 170, but I will not promise anything.

Clifford shorties are the only option for the early A and we want to open that choice up some.

Also be advised that my friend gets $700 at least for a set of custom race car headers. If we can not cut that price by at least half and still give him some profit for his time and effort we will kill the project deader than Kelsey's nuts. No sense wasting your time and his with something no one will pay the $$$ for. :D

Mine, too. Especially if you can get 170's.

Slantzilla,

You mentioned that you were focusing on the early engine header because late model headers exist. Will your's fit on a 225 in a 74 Dart with power steering?

I haven't seen any "new" headers available for a 74 that are long like your fabricating. I don't care for the Clifford's, they are too short for building torque. I want to keep rpms low and work off the torque curve.

Thanks,

Ted, I have no idea if they will fit in the later A or not.

If/when I get a set, I can try them on my '68 Dart. It has manual steering, but I could probably make some measurements.
