Just might try and lend a 600 I bought off Craigslist to a friend with a mild slant.

He built it and over carbed it. The 450 is a circle track carb. We might try a bunch of carbs for grins and giggles. 600Eddie, 800 Thermoquad

I bought the 600 because in the ad it said "390cfm" I'm pissed!

Maybe even a 70 383 AVS

Does the vac pot on a Holley work like an air valve on a Carter? Limiting how far the secondaries can open?

I think that with careful tuning and booster improovement a 600 CFM can easily be tailored to work even better than a 390 on a not so mmild slant six build. The key woudl b in the cam and the head porting job.

The spring determines 'when'/at what vaccuum point they start to open...
Holley has a chart based on a Chevy 350 at a certain rpm the secondaries will open with what colored spring... The 600 on a stock-ish slant will require the Black (stiffest, a big block will open this one, but not full opening for a 350 chevy), or Brown (opens secondaries at really high rpms...) This will lock out the secondaries thus creating a 'Holley 2 barrel' for use with the smaller engine... (as usual, your gas mileage will not be so good, but the power will be as much as the engine will ever produce)...

I think the better choices are the 390/450, the small block TQ, 340 AVS might work OK.

Good Luck, and have fun seeing what works!

He is running 10.3:1 compression, block decked and head shaved. He is a friend of Slantzilla (or is it DSChumers here?) living here in Nashville.

I don't know about head porting and valves. MP 6-1 header MSD

I just emailed a guy about buying another Buick 340 AFB. I have one disassembled to rebuild right now. Tiny carb! Smaller than the hyperpak.

www.mikescuda.net is the car

After looking at the throttle sizes of my stock of 4bbls? The '66 383 AFB I have looks like the same size as the Hyperpak!

EDIT: also has 3:91's and 2600 stall

Did the change down from 450 to 390 this weekend - wow ok the top end suffers a little - but it goes off the mark sideways now

Wife is cheesed off at me - I accidentally left a couple of black stripes down the drive way

I am using the jetting as per Slant six racing manual
