I just purchased a 1967 dodge 1/2 ton truck. Slant 6 w/ a 3 on the tree. I got it from the org owner. This truck is 100% bone stock. I want to make it into a daily driver. I was thinking about purchasing a 2bbl carb for my first up grade. Front disk breaks next? as the truck has been sitting for 8 years, I will be doing all the fluids, gaskets, rubber, ect. I would like to hear your suggestion on needed upgrades... I plant to 70 mph top and spend a lot of time on back roads,

OOOh, youre killing me! One of the 2 vehicles I have had and gotten rid of, and still kick myself for doing so was a 69 D 100; the other? a 67 Cuda Fastback. On the disc brake swap; Unless you're wanting to maybe swap in a F J M body K frame, a disc swap onto a straight axle, kingpin
design front end is gonna be slim pickens! As long as the drums are all intact and in good working order, there should be no problem stopping that truck! Mine worked beautifully. A good friend has a '70, with a well warmed over 383, that I never hear him complain about over working the stock brakes. He doesn't use his as a truck much though, but that 383
has a huge cam and alum heads on it and he really uses the gas pedal!
I have heard that this truck is pushing 500 HP. so just be sure what yu got is up to snuff and spend your $$$ Elsewhere. 70 MPH? If your back roads are like some are around here you'll be hard presses to maintain 1/2 that as they're a mess, between the farm equip and the seasonal freeze/thaw. (not saying that there's NO place to open er up, though)

Disc brakes on the straight axle is prolly going to be a make it yourself type of deal. Though I remember, maybe 5 years ago or more, I heard somewhere about a sort of bolt on kit. Might try www.sweptline.com www.sweptline.org and search their forums. (both sites are in the process of merging) They have lots of good info on these trucks.

The slant can be "warmed up" quite a bit. Get it running with a good tune up and then decide how far you want to take it. You are at THE place for slant info.

BTW Those are really cool trucks, I have a 64 and a 66 waiting in line to be built.

Love those D100's!

Over the last few years I did my '64, every nut, bolt, wire and screw out. I put on disc brakes just because I wanted to see how they work and because my engine was built enough I wanted to be sure I could stop. After all my reworking, and in light of what you say you want to do in using your truck, I suggest you don't need to waste time and money on the disc brake swap. Mine are great but I see current disc kits going for about $600 and there are many things that will help you more for that money. As in get a well done head made so your engine can breathe.

That is about allt I wanted to do to start, but the infamous project creep took over.....fun, addictive, and in the end after several years, worth it to me. But those original brakes are fine brakes, I think mine were 10 x 2 1/2 inches. Though you may want to swap in a dual chamber master cylinder.
