I bought some 6 in to 1 headers that are supposed to be Mopar headers. There are no markings on them, so I can't get a number off of them. I think they are supposed to fit an A body. How can I tell(other than the obvious)? And will they fit early A-bodies too?

TIA

If they are the Mopar/J&R headers they will fit 67 and up A body, F, E, and some B bodies. They will fit an early A body with lots of modification, but it ain't pretty.

Dennis,

I think you had them in the 65 Valiant. How much modification was necessary to get them to fit. More specifically. What has to be done. I am eyeing an early A body for the next project.

I never had them in my car, but I know people who have.

You have to space the engine up, grind part of the steering box off, bend the idler and pitman arms, and pound all kinds of dents in them. After all that, they hang very low.

You DONT want to use 6 into 1 on an early A. Its a NIGHTMARE. Its really not great on 2nd gen A's. When you get to Duster's etc its Marginal.
Hope this helps.

So which A body does it fit best? Duster? Valiant? Dart?

I had them in my 76 Duster and found them to fit fine. Mine was converted to manual steering, and had an aftermarket cable shifter. I have heard they do not clear clutch or column shift linkage well. I also had to make sure the suspension bumpers were in good shape or they would hit on the road.

By comparison, the Clifford shorty header I bought specifically for my Duster would not even come close to fitting. It fits very nicely in my '66 Valiant though. :?

Does any one know if the long 3x2 Hooker headers will fit in a 74 Swinger with power steering and automatic? :?:
I see Summit still sells them.

The only option I know they will not fit for sure is power brakes. The #6 tube comes way out along the firewall and will hit the booster.

I have had them on an f body - Power steering and Manual brakes - They Do interfere with the clutch linkage a bit - but nothing a hammer cant Fix.

THere is a lot of inference problems if trying use a hyperpack manifold with them..FYI.

67-76 A body should all be pretty much the same.

OK, as long as we're doing "what headers fit?" how about my '81 D150? Do I have to get truck specific headers or will others fit properly?

Getting a good Mopar header that fits without hitting anything is hit or miss. Production tolerances are a bit lax.
I have two of them on '68 Valiants. One car has a manual valve body so KD linkage is not needed, it has one dent in one tube to clear the pan. The other car has a BBD and needed the KD linkage modified, otherwise it fit great. Neither hang down too low.
I know someone the has an F body with a Mopar header that had just one probem. He had to cut the flange in one section and lengthen it a bit to get the port spacing correct!
The early A body I saw with one was a '66 Dart. The owner unbolted the motor from the mounts, lifted it high enough so he could bolt the header to the motor, then dropped the motor into the car. The tubes clearanced themselves!

I think most would agree that its just trial and error. Same car with different options = different headers. I think maybe thats why we keep hoping someone will come up with good fitment headers for a decent price.
Dutra Duels and Clifford shortys are the easyest to fit on most cars, however then you have 2 pipes to bring out....not easy with pwr steering pwr brakes and a/c on and early A body....
