My 66 valiant is almost ready for the engine and tranny install. I have a few details to finish up on the engine and that is it. I was wondering if I can install the engine with the intake and header on? It is a non hyperpac clifford intake and a pair of clifford headders.

I dont see why this would cause any trouble, should drop right in with everything bolted up. You would have to leave the starter off until you droped the motor so if the starter can be installed with those headers bolted up then it should be a go. Mind you I have not done this because I dont have a set of those headers but looking at the design it appears like it would drop right stright down in place with no problems. One other thing to consider is the motor mounts. They should be no problems getting to them but like I said I have not run those headers. You would want to leave the mounts off the engine but they could be bolted to the frame. You need them loose so you can slide back to meat the tranny without much problems. One other thing to look at would be the rear header collector and how much room it would have when going down past the master cylinder. If crowed you could even unbolt the mastercylinder for extra room. Just by looking at pics of these headers installed it appears to lots of room for this to work. If it doesnt work out it would not be much problem to remove the header will the engine is still hanging if you are using a good study engine lift/chain host assy. But personally I dont see why it want drop right in all together.

I think it will work fine to. I am putting new studs in the head, and I am just thinking, I have one gasket. Do I install 'em now or later? They look really good on the engine and I can make sure of propper fitment of all that port matching.

You can try it, but I bet it will run into the steering box. I have Cliffords on my '66 and they are very tight in that area and by the torsion bar.

If you have a stock starter, it has to go in before the rear half of the header too. Mini starter will come out just fine.

It will be much easier to do all the bellhousing bolts with the header out too.

The strut from the block to the bellhousing has to be on before the header too. Guess how I know that?

Seeing that this is the first time this combo of parts gets installed into this chassis, I would leave the intake and headers off.

Get the engine / trans bolted-in and get all the surrounding brackets installed, then "fit check" the headers / intake. (set them in place without the gasket)
Once you make any needed adjustments, do the final installation.

If I can pull the engine assembly out of the car with all the items on it... I pretty much know it can be reinstalledl with the same items bolted onto it.
