It mounts on the passenger side of the block, right behind the alternator/ alternator mount... (not my favorite place if you have to swap one out...you can move it to a location of your liking as long as the wires reach, and you get a ignition wire long enough to go from the distributor cap to the coil...)

Let's clean up the double post.

Here's what I put in the other one:

Right here, beside #1 cylinder, is a stock location:

Some people mount them to the inner fender.
The coil bracket bolts to the block, IIRC. Haven't looked at it since I did the HEI conversion a few years ago.

Some of the later model stuff has the bolt holes in the alternator bracket.

I ended all the confusion on my car and mounted it to the fenderwell.

This picture is too small but the original is huge. Save it to your desktop and open with a program that will zoom and make it larger.

You can just see the black, metal alternator bracket between the block and the coil. Hold your coil &/or coil-bracket in this same position and you will be able to see which alternator bracket bolt you need to take out to bolt the coil on with - it holds the alternator bracket and the coil with the same bolt. Even if you have a different bracket, this hole should be in the block.

The last two pics here are about the same but I think they open up a little bigger.

As previously mentioned, a lot of folks move the coil to the fender well. It gets this part further from engine heat.

Mine is mounted on the fender as well. Keeps the wires out of the way and there is no problem with heat.

well i will keep that in mind so i suppose puttiing it on the fender would be a better thing between heat and things in the long run?

I reinstalled my coil and alternator bracket last night to the stock location on my 74 Dart. On one of the terminals on the coil was a short red wire about 1 1/2 inches long with a cylindrical object that obviously needs to be attached to a bolt somewhere. I think this must be some kind of ground, however I don't know where it goes (on one of the two coil bracket bolts?) or if it is should be on the positive or negative terminal of the coil. HELP!

It sounds like a radio noise suppressor. I'm not sure if they are factory or aftermarket - mine is held onto the coil bracket with a screw. You can just barely see it in the last picture here:

just over the fuel pump.
