i got one of those Remflex manifold gaskets for my slant.
it's an awesome item.
it seems like pressed Graphite in my hands. in the process of matching it to my headers, it slipped from my hands. now. the dog ear at the #6 cylinder isn't solidly attached anymore. it's not broken off, sort of wobbly. i'm assuming its useless now. am i rite?

The important thing is:

Is the #6 cyl gasket areas intact (around each runner ports)? The one that partially surrounds stud don't care but important thing is area between stud and the port area is important.

What I am saying is if the crease (fold line) doesn't go through any part of gasket for the ports (or runners). Also if the crease only runs thru a stud/bolt holes but none thru the gasket for the ports, then you're safe.

I worked in the pulp and paper industry for years and we loved the graphite gaskets.They had the ability to "heal" themselves when torqued down.Also we didn't have to clean flange area spotless as any left over old graphite became "one" with new gasket when tightened down.That being said there isn't gobs of torque involved here but following Wizards advise give it a try,you could very well luck out Good Luck

regrettably, the bolt hole area was not affected. the weak spots are along the top of the runner hole and close to the lower rite corner of the runner. the "heal themselves" idea gives me hope, but i think i'll start with the gasket that came with thheaders first. its more of a har d rubber. the intake manifold has been surfaced. this will be first use for the headers. the questionable surface wiil be the head..

Don't go with the hard gasket.......use the Remflex. I doubt that you hurt it at all. It compresses so much that it will heal its self. They are the best gaskets I have ever used. The engine is nice and quiet, great vacuum, no exhaust leaks!

I will never go back to a stock FelPro or Aussie gasket!

RF6008 is for the slant 6. they have a dealer locator if u want to get it over the counter. they will be glad to take ur order online. it worked for me during their Xmas vacation.

I haven't seen one yet, but they will custom make gaskets. I called and asked a few weeks ago.

seems to be the general idea is to go ahead with the remflex.
here's what i did.
i shmeared black, Hi-temp slicone on the narrow edges in the "flexible " spots. the inner and outer edges. the idea being to stiffen up the gasket till i install it this weekend.
hopefully all the predictions of Healing" itself will ring true.

it seems to be working. the remflex smoked a bit at first start up. after about 30 minutes running, no leaks to be found.
