ok i'm running castrol 20w50 in a 77 225 bolted to a 904. The filter is the k&n hp2004. immediatly after an oil change i've got around 55psi of oil pressure at idle in park and roughly 45 in gear. However, once the car warms up pressure drops to around 40 in park and 20-25 in gear. Also i've got oil misting out of the dipstick when the stick is pulled while the car is running. When the stick is not pulled it seems like it's venting out around the top of the dipstick tube. Any clue whats causing either of the problems? oh, and it's also got a new PCV and oil breather to try and correct the problem. no luck

Either the oil is overfull and it's foaming or you've got a blowby problem.

Just because the PCV has been replaced, does not mean the system is working properly. With the engine running, remove the valve from the hose, and see if the engine stalls. If not, the hose, or the passage in the carb, is plugged up, or possibly has the wrong gasket under the carb, or installed wrong.

i did a compression test awhile back and they were all around 130-140psi and held their pressure. I hadn't thought that the carb base gasket would do it but now that you mention it it is entirely possible. How would in know which one i need for it? I can't remember what the old one looked like before i rebuilt the carb.
