WooHoo! My new sl/6 torque plate is done. Thanks for the suggestions, Doc. Thanks to my old HS shop teacher, Ernie, who's got a machine shop in his basement.
I've still got to make a wood carrying case for it, though.
If I don't run out of funds, I'll be working on a new 225 short block over the winter. I can't wait to get my '66 Cuda back on line.

Hi Bud,

You mean the same thing as a honing plate, right? Very cool. After seeing how nice of a job the tool & die did on my flange, I thought about this too. What's it made out of? How thick is it?

The one I have is made of mild steel, I also have a cast iron one.

Both are 2 inches thick.

Mine is 2 1/2" thick mild steel. I had it roughed out, stress-relieved, blanchard ground, and then finish machined. There was quite alot of work to machine it, because I wanted it to be used with the dowel pins, and because the bore spacing was not uniform. We used an old block to indicate in each bore.

DD how much did this cost you to get made? What did you have to provide them with...drawing, actual head..etc?

Does one the steel work better than the cast iron or vice verse??

: Doc, where did you get the honing plate? I've
: asked some of the local machine shops if
: they have one, and none has. Maybe if I
: supply the plate, they will use it to do the
: job right.

I had the plate shown below made by CJ at Yothers in Alameda, CA. Costs about $300.00

Hone Plates seem expensive but I should have bought mine years earlier after looking at all the money spent borrowing & shipping other people's plates around.
Last I heard, Clifford had a SL6 plate for rent.
