A slant six is like robocop pretty much indesturktable and well unkillable in some sense and that is why it is a kick ass engine

That's an opinion that was shared by many people that saw my slant 6 powered road racing Dart. In stock form the slant 6 is very durable and will withstand a lot of abuse. What is won't withstand is 5500+ RPM without oil in the bearings. Keeping oil in the bearings is easier said than done when road racing.

I prefer to think of a slant as very much like my favorite beer, Arrogant Bastard.

This is because true arrogance, like a slant, will never die.

I ruined a perfectly good 225 slant six recently. I'm embarrassed to say. Changed the oil and filter without removing the existing oil filter seal. All the new oil blew out without me knowing and no warning. As I was driving, I happened to look out the rearview and saw blue smoke. One block later the engine light comes on and the engine stalls. I restart and 3 blocks later, it's dead. Had AAA tow it home. Thank goodness I had a parts car with a running 225. Did the swap. I learned my lesson!
