I have a 71 Scamp 225/904. for the last week i have had a "jiggle, jiggle noise under the hood. You know, the kind of noise you get from a bad PS Pump bearing or something loose under the hood.

Today i took everything rotating out of the equation. I took the PS and Alt belt off so nothing was rotating in the front, and it still made the noise.

It seems not to do it till it gets warm, then its loud enough to be heard when your 10 or 20 feet away or so.

I thought it may be the trans kickdown or a fuel line jiggeling against the block, but i crawled under it with the engine running and didnt see anything.

It stops the noise all the way in Park, and it is fainter in Neutral. It really seems like it is coming from the transmission somewhere.

But it seems to shift fine.

Anyone have any ideas?

A good first step would be to check the torque on the torque converter bolts. (make sure there tight)

so its gettin worse in gear? like when the engine shifts from torque. you may want to have someone powerbrake it while you look around... ... if you trust them. could be somethin simple as the belt rubbin on the trans cooler line, which ive had happen. start simple. and those TC bolts bein loose makes an awesome noise.

Check your TC to flexplate bolts. Over time these can come loose. There is a removable cover on the front of the bellhousing that you can see and work thru.

Don't forget to check your trans cooler hardlines...there are lots of places they can hit on their way from the trans to the radiator, and the resultant noises can imitate a lot of different bad components.

Yes indeed. Another possibility is a cracked flexplate. Been there, heard that- sounds like a rattle, not like you'd expect.
