I'm having a 225 (mechanical lifters vintage) rebuilt in Houston (Thunderbolt Motors) and have run into a dilemma.
There are two sizes of crank shafts compatible with the motor, and I'm trying to find out which one to use.

I'm dropping this engine in a 63 Dart and have purchased an A-833 4-speed transmission I want to mate to the motor, but I don't know what size flywheel will be used.
From what I read in the 4-speed transmission article on this site, I'm going to need a 124 tooth flywheel, '63-67 vintage

Thunderbolt could only give me the following info on the flywheels to mate to the engine:
The "width" of the flywheel (a measurement based on the extent of the flange?) may either be:
1.962"
or
2.157"

The tranny is a short-tail shaft, and
4.35" IBR

If anyone is familiar with this application, or knows of some literature they can point me to on this, it would be greatly appreciated.
I can also get more information on the crankshafts being considered if that will help.

You use the early '67 and older crank with the same flywheel or use the newer crank and flywheel.

What I mean is, would either of the flywheel sizes be compatible with the tranny?
The only info I have on the two flywheels compatible with the engine is their "width" (the 1.962" vs 2.157") and I don't know the vintage or tooth count of either, and I'm asking to see if anyone knows where I can find this out.

All the passenger slant 6 car flywheels are the same size except for the center hole and have 122 ring gear teeth. Go read the clutch article in the articles section. Click on the box that says "Home" then on the one that says "Articles". All your questions are answered in those articles.

It hadn't occurred to me to ask Thunderbolt about the vintage of the crankshafts, and those measurements they gave me are one of those trivial things that can't be found on the internet. So I apologize if I tried your patience there.

Anyway thank you for the help. Thunderbolt isn't able to hunt up the pre-'67 crank shaft so I guess that's what I'm hunting now.
Gotta love looking for parts in less-than-popular vintage motorsports.

It may be easier to find (and ship) a later (68 & newer) SL6 flywheel then to find and ship a 60-67 "small hub" crankshaft.

I have both the flywheel and a balanced and polished crank if you want either or both. I would give away the crank for its shipping fee...it weighs 78 lbs. uncrated.
