Thank you Pierre. I will take the pump out, and see what can be seen from the pump hole of the sump. I tried taking a picture through the sending unit hole, and it just looked wierd. I could not tell anything from it.

On the factory vent set up, there was a small expansin tank up in the trunk that mounted to the inner wheel well. I put this in my '70 (which is gone now) as I used the tank from the '72 parts car I had. But I don;t remember how it was all routed. I could put the manifold up in the trunk I guess.

Walter, at the time I talked to Ricks, they no longer made the SS A body tank. This was the only option they have for us at this time. Do you know how the sump is designed, and how it works? How does the sump get filled when you fill the tank. What keeps it from running dry?

On a related issue, I found a great looking after market gas gap assembly made by Newton Equipment Ltd. It is model "zero 200". I looked for a dealer in the states who would show it in their on-line catalogue, and could not find it after an hour of searching. It is the perfect size and configuration for the A body filler cap. Pierre, I pulled the fuel pump, and the sump is full depth, with a 1/8" hole at the bottom to allow the sump to fill. I will take a picture of the pump and send it along. The pump is mounted on a pair of vertical posts that allow it to be adjusted so that it sits right down with the pick up sock right in the bottom of the sump.

Do you know if the new part of the tank they welded on is stainless or just mild steel? Is there any coating in the tank since there wouldn't be any galvanizing left where it was welded?

Anyone have an opinion on merging this thread with the new tank design thread? Or know who/how to ask if it's decided thats appropriate?

The new part is stainless. The tank had no galvinizating. I metal prepped it, primed it, and painted it with rustoleum. It should be OK. It is important to let the Rustoleum dry thoroughly as it is an enamel paint, and not lacquer. I should be close to getting it installed. I need to work out a few AN connections at both ends of the car.

New tank is in, and works well. I can;t believe I was so paranoid about taking the old one out. It took a week of mornings one hour at a time. I will post about resetting fuel pressure.
