I have a stock 225 in my 72 dart and im always looking to get some more MPG out of it.

I know a free flowing exst will help a little in power but how about milage? I kinda like how my dart is so quiet that its hard to tell if its running at idle...but with gas the way it is any little bit helps.

It has one of those stock looking muffler shop mufflers on it. I could swap that with a Terminator muffler (basically a flowmaster) that i know would flow more.

Has anyone ever noticed a gain?

A good stock muffler will flow close to what a fancy one does.

Have not seen the "Pointless One" for a while.......

Back when I had my '74 Duster going from a stock pipe to a 'feather duster' exhaust pipe with even a cheapo turbo muffler helped bump my mpg up 1-2mpg on the average highway run(I was daily driving to Portland everyday, so 110 mile round trip, 90% highway speeds with a 3 spd manual and stock engine)...

The only thing that is gained with the flowmaster/turbo, is the noise level past a certain rpm....

I drive a minimum 130 miles a day, town - stop and go, back roads at 40 mph and about a third freeway. With a 2.25" pipe compared to the stock system, mileage went up 2 miles per gallon. The extra power for passing was a nice plus. It has more pep from 2000 to 3000 rpm. I cruise at 2500 when I can, most of the time is around 2000 rpm. :D

Did you order the pipes from someware or just have a shop make it?

The muffler that is on there now isnt OEM. Its some aftermarket muffler shop one. Im thinking its restrictive because i have a problem keeping flange gaskets in the car and its soooo quiet. The pipes are fine but tiny.

The car gets 18-20mpg on the highway.

I had a local shop make them, mandrel bent so they are smooth bends. The guy that did the work has a 64 Valiant so he knows what to do. If your getting 18- 20 you may get 22 to 24. I drive very aggressively so I am not easy on it. I am not sure what I could get on a trip. You can use the 318 muffler which is very quiet. Walker makes them. The Thrush Turbo is a little louder and the Thrush Welded is a FlowMaster 40 take-off and a little louder yet.
You can run the first 6' from the manifold to the muffler at 2.25 then drop down to a 2" tail pipe if you want it super quiet. I used to blow out gasket about every 6 months. Buy the super thick mating flange and a Remflex gasket. Your blow out problems will be over..... :D

I could tell a "seat of the pants" difference when I went from the stock pipe to just a full 2" system with a turbo muffler. I went to a Magnaflow XL 2 years ago and really like it. It lets you know its there when you get on it, but its almost silent at freeway speeds.
