Helping out a guy from another site here.

Here's what he says:

"So it's in a 67 Dart. There's no timing marker on the damper (no damper just a belt wheel) and no marker on the timing cover. I do have a notch on the belt wheel which I assume is tdc but how do I line it up with the timing cover? Any body got one of these they can give me measurements to mark the timing cover?

Tall order I know but Nova people helping Nova people (with their Novas and Dodge Darts)???

Any help will be much appreciated...The timing's so bad it cut out as I was driving up my steep driveway and rolled back into the street(no brakes)

Thank you.
Robert"

Yeah, in a 67 there should be 3 notches in the outer ring like your 63 damper... the stock timing tab must be broken off unless he isn't looking at the timing cover correctly...

If it's not running right, he'll need to do the distributor timing test... pull distributor cap and work the crank back and forth and see if the rotor is 'delayed' in going one way or another... chances are 1) the timing chain needs replacing and it's off a tooth or so, 2) the damper has slipped and it's notlining the mark up correctly... 3) if both occur it'll make life pretty miserable...

Tell him to come on over to or site, we can help... he probably won't get much help on the Nova ( no go!!!) site....

The SL6 "belt wheel" (fan belt pulley) is also the vibration dampener. (VD)

Ask him to ID the position of the TDC mark on the VD in reference to the crank's keyway slot. 60-67 VDs will have the TDC mark at the 4:00 position (keyway at 12:00) and the 68 and up will have TDC close to the keyway slot, but slightly to the right, call it
"12:30" position.

If he has the early VD then you can install a bolt-on timing tab. If he has the later set-up, where the tab is welded to the t. cover, then things get more difficult. Either install the correct "welded-on tab" t. cover or install the early bolt-on timing tab and re-punch the TDC mark on the VD.

Thanks a lot for your help thus far. Yeah, I don't have a bolt on timing marker. It'd be hard to miss. And I don't have a weld on one either. The guy that I bought it from was a student of some mechanic and probably just put on some junk. This is one of several mickey mouse jobs I've found on this car. And if I can tell it's Mickey mouse, then it's gotta be really bad.

So yeah, the notch on the VD rotates between about 4 and 6 o'clock. (Normal?) depending on my rotation of the distributor.

As you may have guessed, I don't know what a "keyway slot" is...
I looked for it at 12:00 and 12:30 but couldn't identify it. Where is it, or where is the appropriate mark on the timing cover to line up to in relation to the seven timing cover bolts( front to back, facing the engine) or the other four (left to right)

Sorry, I wish I knew all the right terms to ask a sensible question. Laymans terms if at all possible.

Hope this all makes sense.
Thank you.

Robert R.

ps. I saw a timing mark at about 7:30 on mopar muscle on a slant six. What's that all about?

Look inside the center hole of the vibration dampener for the keyway groove. You may need to clean-out the dirt to find it.
Here is an image I took off another website.
