So If I understand, a 2.2 piston will fit and raise the compression to 9.0:1. Will the pistons fit on the same rods and will I need to have the cylinders reborded to a larger size then the current 3.460, like 3.465. Is that the standard size piston or is it a over bored size for a 2.2.

The 2.2 piston works only if you have 198 conection rods. (7 inch center to center) What is the forging number on your con rods?

The 3.465 is .5mm oversize for the 2.2 piston. Some books will also call it a .020 oversize.

You will need to measure the pistons and most likely rehone the block to set the proper clearance.

So will I need a 225 crank also.

yes you need a 225 crank so that the long stroke +shorter piston will give you the better rod ratio and compression that your looking for.

between a new crank, new pistons, and rings. I think I will be spending more than my wallet has . So I am going to go with the 198 for now and later look into the 225 conversion. I going to need some money to finish the rest of the car. If not I will be looking at a nice engine and not have a car to put it in.

Found a perfectly cast BH block ('74) and sonic checked it. Also Hard Blocked the bottom half just to be on the safe side. Bore = 3.592

you will do fine with a 198cid just remember that most of your gain is in the head and finial compression ratio , so try for 9/1 comp and do a 3 angle cut and gasket match on the intake and exhaust, some blending on the bowl area after the 3 angle job will give you good flow to. good luck and remember, die grinders are your friend.
