I have a 170 with a super six intake I just installed.

I have been surfin to research the Holley carb that is ooff my shelf.

I have had no luck using these Holley numbers R 7888?

Is this a common two barrel carb that should be used for a stock 225?

Should it perform well on a 170?

So far I have had it running a few moments as I need to order a carb kit.

It needs a needle and seat.

Seemed smooth and responsive so far. Two minutes worth anyhow.

If it's a Holley 2880 replacement for the Carter BBD then you can look up the carb kit two ways (R-7990 should be similar), or just tell the 'clerk' you have a 1978 Dodge Aspen/Diplomat with a 318, Holley 2 barrel...

It should work for your engine, but you'll have to tune it as some of the jetting/idle metering might be a bit rich...

Why, when this number is used to look up for purposes of a new needle and seat under Holley numbers R-7888 do i get an affirmative part delivered tomorrow a.m. ? (needle and seat)

Comes up on certain carb sites as a Replacement Holley 2280 (Holley replacement carb for Small BBD), intended for use in USA and Canada on 1970-1973 Chrysler Vehicles with the 318 2 barrel option... You can rebuild it, the idle circuit will be a bit rich and you will have to tune accordingly, the jets may be a bit rich and you will have to buy others and tune accordingly, you will also have to sort out the choke (if still intact will not work with the super six linkage)... these have been used on 225 super sixes, you just will be working out the issues of a carb tuned for the V-8 on your smaller engine... as an FYI, the carb kit for the 7888 is the same for a much more common number the R7990A (1978 chrysler vehicles with the 318-2v)... It should run fine on your vehicle as long as you 'dial it in' (adjust your carb for best vacc. at idle, then read the plugs when driving at cruise)...

Technically if you had a competent auto parts store in town they'd have one of the master Holley 'bible' style catalogs to look your carb up .
