I completed my first slant six it has:

8.4 compression ratio .060 of the head
3.460 bore
198 crank and rods
stock pistons with cast rings
Stock cam bumped up to a true .44 intake lift at valve degreed and set 3 degrees retared
stock valves with hardened exhast seats
ported intake and exhast runners
super six intake and exhast gasket mached to head
Carter bbd from a v-8 pre emmissions stuff
Stock timming chain

All for a total of

$275 machining, piston pressing, valve job and mill
$280 Engine rebuild kit with piston and oil pump
$40 Cam regrind
$55 supplies (silicone, paint, ect.)

$650 give or take $20

Not bad for a fresh engine.

Looks great!
You may want to re-think that big steel fan, those "eat" a bit of power and make a bunch of noise. My car actual cooled better at freeway speeds with a smaller fan.

its going in a 64 barracuda with a 230 3 speed full syncro. its going to be a driver and fun car for my wife to take to local shows. Right now the body is rough but very little rust and I hope to get it painted and start assembly buy late september [/quote]

I split the overlap and retarded it three degrees from there to hopefully gain a litle higher end performance. I'm not sure being that it is a small overlap if it will make a bunch of diffrence. I'm just playing with what I have to make the best of it with out laying out the cash for a hi-porformance cam. I also may put automatic in it later if my wife gets tired of driving a stick.

I've been thinking about building a box tube jig that I can use to run and break-in motors for a while now. But the price of steel is so insane that it's probably just worth it to drop it in the hole and fire it up...as much as we hate doing things twice that is. It would definitely put a smile on your face, no question.

Just jumping in. Nice job, I'm thinking of painting my engine body color, and i think the valve cover idea will catch on.
