So I'm new on this forum and somewhat new to the slant six, I work on BBC's in race boats for a living so i'm a little dumb when it comes to the slant 6. I have a completely stock 225 in a 61 lancer and the car has been restored and got a new motor and nobody touched anything for about 10 years so i'm going throught the motor, it starts and runs but needs alot of work. First, is a pcv valve really neccessay on this motor? I had planned on just running a baffled breather and eliminating a lot of the stock crap on the motor.

I will be taking the 1bbl intake and carb off and putting on either a 4 bbl or 2 bbl holley/carter etc. Any preferences? Anybody see more power gains with one more than the other, I don't care about gas mileage.

Also bought petronix conversion, chrome valve cover and a bunch of other odds and ends.

any insight is much appreciated, thanks in advance. :D

Will it run without the PCV? Yes, absolutely; in fact most were produced with just a road draft tube. However, it will run better and stay cleaner with a properly functioning PCV. A vented cap will spew gunky oil all over the engine and engine bay. I'd stick with the PCV.

Unless the engine is a later model than the car it's not going to have much of anything you can remove. With stock long blocks the Super Six 2bbl is a good choice. If you go with more cam, compression and some head work you can use more carburetor flow of course. The Holley 350 cfm 2bbl is also a good choice for stock or mild builds. With a little work you can adapt the Holley to the Super Six manifold or an Offy or Clifford manifold.

Keep the PCV, and unless that chromed valve cover is a chromed stocker, I wouldn't recommend using it. Many of the aftermarket chrome covers lack the necessary baffles, and will cause the engine to lose oil. Unless that's a later motor swapped on, the PCV valve is pretty much the only smog equipment on it.
