Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between perseverance and subborness. I appreciate the kind words. At the very least someone may learn what not to do. :wink: Nice weather is here, the garage is about done. My achilles tendon is healing nicely, and I should be able to concentrate on the Dart soon.

Out of curiousity, is the DFI system able to fire a coil directly, or does it always need an external module?

Would reversing the leads on the pickup from the distributor to the ECU be worth a try? It has been stated over and over that reversing this can sometimes make things run better. I think even Rance mentioned that to me Is this just purely a subjective thing, or is there some concrete test I can measure to determine if this helped or hurt? I feel silly for not thinking of this before. Thanks.

It's not subjective; if there's going to be an effect, the car will run very obviously better with correct polarity.

You still need to put an appropriate coil in there...

Thanks Dan. I got the coil, but haven't put it in yet. I moved the car outside and covered it up while working on the garage. Now it is very chilly again, and has been raining cats and dogs for days. Our rain gauge has picked up 8 inches of rain in five days. We have been getting the tail end of those violent, toronado ladden stroms that have ripped the Midwest in the last week. So until it warms up and stops raining, I likely will not even try to get it started, and inside.

The speed shop mentioned is called Maryland Performance here in Gaithersburg. I purchased an MSD coil recommended by them for its low RF interfereance characteristics. It is part number 8207. The counter guy who seems like a straight shooter said they have had this particular coil eliminate interferance caused by canister style Blaster coils.

The bad weather is one reason I have been inside pestering you guys on the Forum. :wink:

Interesting information, and it's certainly plausible. I haven't looked into the EMI/RFI characteristics of the can-type coils. Usually it's not an issue because there's nothing EMI/RFI-sensitive within miles (OK, feet) of the coil on a slant-6, but you've got a great deal of potential electronic noise and sensitivity thereto in your particular car. Can-type coils went out of fashion in the very early '90s.
