Just got these numbers from a friend that has 6 aluminum blocks,A6514,24,266.29,645,31,098,36,791,and 45,988,He says the best one is A6514,I bought his second best years ago that happened to be 55,280,still looking for backup higher number GOOD block,mark

The highest one I checked is 56143,
This one is going into my 61 valiant wagon.
The block came out of a 62 lancer in georgia in 2003. I only had a pocket knife, a piece of rope, a busted up jack from the trunk and a ajustable wrench to use to get it out. It was a mission but I wasnt leaving it there to rot away.

The head has "G-H 40" in the stamping pad area. Any hints on what that is would be nice.

I need to get some stuff in front of the low numbered one out before I can see the number. Hopefully tonight.

While we are all looking at our Aluminum SL6 blocks, check to see if any of them have the 12 undrilled oil passage "bosses", intended to feed hydrualic lifters.
This photo shows a block that has the bosses, the small white arrow points to the bottom of one boss. This is block number 46,944



Twiggy's block (46,944) and the block in my 65 Dart Convert. (33,307) do not have these bosses.



As the story goes, the die cast Aluminum SL6 block was originally designed to have hydrualic lifters but the idea was dropped after the first castings were made. I remember seeing something that said that the "dies were changed to eliminate the bosses" but does that mean that a new set of dies (molds) were made or were the original ones altered?

I have never seen any info. on how many blocks were made with the extra bosses and the block numbers having this feature, seem to range all over the place, so it would be interesting to know the number of any block that has these undrilled oil passages.

Block # 23533,#51985 and #55289 all have the bosses on the oil rail. Will there be any other differences to look for on these blocks? Oh on #23533 there is a small heart stamped at the beginning of the number, any one know what that might mean?

Maybe the guy stampeing the numbers that day was gay and wanted to add a little flair,,,just kidding,,,,never seen or heard of this,mark

I think the heart is used to show oversize cylinderbores but I need to do some additional checking to confirm that.

Thanks to everyone for looking for the oil passage bosses, as I suspected, there is still no good grouping of numbers.
