for those interested (and I know your out there), here is some info I got from Mother Earth News.

http://www.motherearthnews.com/Green-Tr ... opane.aspx

It's outdated info but the principles should be the same.

I don't recommend the spud-in conversion described in the Mother Earth article for automotive applications. It works OK on stationary engines running at a constant speed and load but propane mixers (both air valve and venturi) work much better in cars.

A much better example of a conversion similar to what would be required on a slant six is the 1963 Rambler Conversion, his conversion addendum, and conversion photos. Tom Jennings used a Model 125 carburetor (a mixer becomes a carburetor when you add throttle valves) but is somewhat undersized in his 232 and also would be in a 225. The Impco Model 200 would be a much better carburetor in this application.

For those considering an LPG conversion in newer EFI application, propane injection is the way to go. An example of this is my 2003 Impala propane injection conversion. Putting a mixer on an EFI engine will eventually lead to an expensive intake manifold backfire.

Frank, I checked out your web site, and I am amazed at how much you know about this stuff!

I have a lawnmower that runs off propane. I converted it myself last summer for gits and shiggles. I just adapted an old propane torch to a piece of brake line, soldered them together, and stuck the other end into the carb where the squeezy bulb once lived. Whole thing is rigidly mounted to the handle. Runs all right, enough to mow around the house, but isn't the optimum.

I can see now that running a car off propane is a lot more science than I thought. I'll follow this thread to see where it leads. I'd like a propane car some day if gas keeps going up.
