I'm thinking about getting a new balancer for my turbo engine rather than running a stock piece. Dan posted a link to a Power Band damper from Australia, and I've also heard of another Australian source called Romac. Any other sources out there? How do aftermarket dampers compare to stock ones? It would be nice if I could find one that's lighter or has other improvements over the original.

Cool, I didn't know there were any SFI certified options out there other than adapting one from a different motor.

Clifford used to sell Fisher dampers, but they don't show on their website anymore. The one drawback with Fisher dampers (other than being more expensive) is that they required greater clearance in front of the timing cover than the stockers. Unless they've been redesigned, the ones for Slants also require that a V-belt drive pulley be bolted on.

The main body of the damper can be unbolted from the center hub, which (unless I am mistaken) would allow you to remove the timing cover without having to use a damper puller.

I'm sure Doc or someone else who has used one of these will chime in with their experiences/opinions to give you more info.

I have used the Fisher dampener and BB Mopar units.
Both types stuck-out further the the factory SL6 unit.
I trimmed back the hub on the Fisher dampener I have to get it closer to the t. cover.

There are reports that the units form Oz have the pulley groove and correct spacing but I have never seen or used one like that. ( can anyone confirm that claim?)
DD

PS, the hub has to be remover to get the t. cover off.

Thanks for the correction r.e. the fisher hub clearing the timing cover opening, Doc.

How about water pump, alternator, crank pulley alignment for the V-belt with the Fisher? What sort of tweaking was needed there?

Hi doc,

The guy over here with the val museum showed me one the other day - I was looking for a good damper - it looks the same, but the collar is about 1/4 inch longer fancy romac unit Just VERY expensive

What mods need to be done on the BB dampers?
