Last night I finished pulling my build up engine out of my parts car and once I had the block on the engine stand I heard the worst noise i could think of parts falling and hitting the oil pan. After I pulled the oil pan i found this.



Is there any other parts i should look at to check for damage?

The oil pump, cam, lifters, you name it......this engine was run out of oil.

The crank is probably trashed on that rod's journal.

The Engine was not run out of oil there was a stress fracture in the rod, which caused the warping. One good thing about this i was planing on relacing the rod and pistons when I over bore the cylinders. The rest of the engine is in good shape so far but has a lot of miles. Tons of carbon and sludge build up.

But what caused the stress on the rod? In my small expirence with the slant six it'll take more than long life. That's fine though, just make sure to clean and inspect the rest of the engine. I talked about this with someone recently and I can't stress this enough, for the money look at getting the engine balanced. I priced it and it was going to be somewhere around $50 for full balancing. Of course there is other machining going on there, but sounded like a fair price.
Clean and inspect everything twice, and than have your neighbor do it again. However, I thought I found a hairline fracture in the head, did some grinding and found that it died out.
If the crank is dead, I would go find a common enough cast crank, they weigh quite a bit less so they can help spin your engine and I'm sure they will survive a street engine.

Yeah, but if the block is a forged crank block, a cast crank won't work. bearings different width, etc.

its not broken, it had the wrong thermostat. ron
