Hello there, posted a couple of topics so thought I d introduce meself and vehicle.

I'm vornie, I live in the UK, and have a 1983 Dodge 50 ex ambulance with a chrysler slant six engine. The vehicle is fab, most of the original ambulance interior is still intact, and the engine is great with a few minor things I need to sort.

I ll leave that for now, pics to follow when I get a chance. I d be interested to know if there s any other Dodge 50 slant sixers on here UK or otherwise

Cheers

Vornie

H'mm. "Dodge 50"...? I'm a little confused. You have a 1950-model Dodge ambulance that's been fitted with a later slant-6 engine and matching drivetrain?

Nope its a British Dodge 50 model from 1983, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_50 . Dodge 50s were built in Britain from 1970-1990ish.

I think it may have been an entirely different company to american Dodge and was later taken over by renault. The vehicles were mostly custom made as service vehicles - ambulances, british telecom vans some army vehicles and cherry pickers etc. Most of the Dodge 50s were fitted with perkins diesel engines, but a rare few were fitted with slant six chrysler engine 225.

We ve been polietly turned away by a few mechanics because they ve never heard of the engine - I don t think it has been used in many other vehicles in the UK, when we were looking for a new water pump one mechanic told us to give up - we d never find one as they don t make them any more! So it was such a relief when I discovered slant six parts are available from the US and Oz.

So great to find this forum as not many/no places to get advice over here. Need to have a root through the threads to see what oil I should be using.

We got our ambulance (converting to a camper) last year, runs well as it was in storage for years and not used excessively. Very big vehicle, 9ft height 18ft length. The clock says its done 27.000 but theres only 5 digits so it may have been around the clock already I m not sure.

Pics to follow!

Ah! Okay, gotchya. I remember seeing a Dodge 100 w/Renault emblem (Dodge 100 article linked off that Dodge 50 Wikipedia article) the last time I was in England and wondering what the story was. Looking forward to pictures.
