Haven't seen you mention anything about the 5-speed project lately. Did you ever get it all straightened out?

Hey Dennis,

Thanks for asking. Yes, everything is pretty ship shape. There is a slight vibration with engine speed, peaked at 2500 RPM, that I have not tracked down yet, but it is minor and can wait. I did reshim the rear axle angle and dropped in a new (Denny's) driveshaft and that fixed the driveline shake. The hydro clutch linkage was money well spent, as was the new T5. It has been "track worthy" for about the last 2 months - since just after Richmond.

This thing walks pretty good now and drives like a dream. I have all my pedals set up at the heights I like so shifting up and down is easy. I have 3.91s in it, which gives 11.5:1 in 1st and 2.46:1 in 5th. 2700 RPM at 80 MPH cruising - haven't tested hwy mileage yet to my satisfaction, but it will be between 22 and 25 at that speed based on my tests with 3.23s. Mixed mileage around town/back roads with plenty of WOT and some high speeds is about 18 - awesome. Had it up to 110 MPH at VIR last Monday on the back straight a coupla times, and I hit 125 (uphill) on I40 a few days ago. OK, gotta watch those tickets...

Haven't tested the 1/8 or 1/4 mile yet, which will have to wait 'til the spring. 14.0-14.5 with all the other mods I've done?? I've added relatively heavy wheels/tires for road racing and the big discs on all 4, so that slows things down a little. Someday I'll pick up a set of Welds for the dragstrip. Mainly I'm practicing my heel-toe downshifts for the road course and looking forward to a track weekend at VIR in April.

If the weather is good, I may drive this thing to the banquet in Gatlinburg - we'll see...

Cheers mate, :8

Lou
