How are the small block A727 to \6 adaptor plates attached to the block? I removed 3 of the 4 flex plate bolts to separate the transmission by about 2". I can't see any other bolts attaching the adaptor plate to the motor block, is there a trick to removing the plate? I'd like to swap in a O/D auto transmission behind a \6.

I'm no authority, but I'd guess you need to look for some countersunk, flathead allen bolts threaded into the block from the trans side of the plate. You may have to seperate a bit further to see them.

That's what I assumed. The motor is stuck and still in a chassis and half in the mud, it would sure be easier if the transmission could be removed...

I've only taken one of those apart and that was like 25 yrs ago. I have a hard enough time remembering what i did last month.

You definitely need to pull the trans back a bit. There are standard bolts (hex head cap screws) holding the plate to the block (just as if you had a 904 bolted up) and you need pull the motor forward with the trans unbolted, or pull the trans back before you can get to them. I have a pic somewhere if I can find it when I get back home. The plate I have and all I've seen are 1 1/8" thick so there is plenty of room for regular bolt heads.

Is this thing in a junkyard?

Lou

I got the plate off, there are three 9/16" hex bolts. Pretty easy to remove I suppose, although I couldn't see the bolts. I got the plate at Johns Salvage in Seguin, Texas. I think I may find some more of these. John asked $45.00 for this plate.

If anyone is in that area John has an Aspen station wagon with an 833 O/D with a 318. I have only seen the O/D transmission coupled to a slant six. This might be a fun hauler for someone. Body is in good shape, it is a simple "dog dish" car. The clutch pedal is stuck on the floor, tranny seems to be OK. Not a rough project by any means.
