About a year ago I replaced the trans filter/seal (rubber) and I parked it for a few months. I then drove prolly 50 mi or so and it seemed fine until I got home. As soon as I parked it in the driveway, the trans gasket blew out and spewed fluid. I raced to the garage and got a pan. It flowed out for maybe 15min. So since then I have replaced it with a cork gasket and it has about 200 mi on it with almost not problems.

But I put 5 qts of fluid in it, and the dipstick still says "Add a qt." The manual I have says only 4 1/2 qts. It says this, nomatter if there is 4 or 5 qts or more in it.

The trans does "slip" from first to second when its cold. You have to let off the gas, and rev it lightly a couple of times, but warm its fine. Note: it only does this once (it doesn't slip a 2nd time), but it happens every time its cold. Also, it never slips from 2nd to 3rd.

Nice firm shifts as expected, hot or cool.

My grandpa, who is very experienced with cars, insists on putting more in but I keep saying no. The first time we replace the gasket he added 5 1/2 qts, and it still said add a qt. I think thats why it blew out.

Does any one know what the actual fluid level is, or what the prob. might be?

Woot! This is my 100th post! yay!
