Hi guys!!

I'm workin' on a '73 Scamp for a buddy of mine. Having lots of trouble with plugs... from what I can tell the recommended plugs (Champion n14y) aren't the same now, they're RN14y's... as in resistor type plug. Does anyone know where non-resistor type plugs can be had? Any idea which plugs I should get??

A little more info... talked to another friend at the dealer, he says I need either non-resistor type plugs OR ignition wires with no resistance... but can't have both. Can't seem to find either one, of course. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanx All!!!

Buy NGK ZFR5N plugs and cut the crush washers off( you dont use them with the spark plug tubes)

PS while your at it buy the square cut spark plug tube seals and replace them too.

NGK ZFR5N's are truck plugs, right? Is that the trick, do I need a hotter plug?

Havent looked to see if its a "truck plug" but the plugs work good. Search for tune up parts in this section. Do a proper tune up and you will be amazed at the difference.

You don't need special "truck" or hotter plugs. Use the NGK #ZFR5N spark plugs, and remove the metal ring washers before installing them. If the parts store won't supply parts unless you give them an application, tell them you want NGK plugs for a 2000 Jeep Cherokee with 4.0 engine. Further tune-up parts and technique suggestions in this thread, and remember this engine has valves that need adjustment.

Because it is a '73, take a look on the passenger side of the firewall. You'll see a small black device with two vacuum hoses connected to it. One runs to the carburetor, and the other runs to the distributor. This is an OSAC valve, and its only job was to squeak the new '73s past Federal emission certification tests so the cars could be legally sold. Bypass this valve: run the vacuum hose directly from distributor to carburetor, and just leave the OSAC valve out of it (no need to cap or plug it, etc.). You'll find the acceleration and economy considerably improved.
